Poor Fiber Separation

Problem Summary

Poor fiber separation is typically the result of the pulp being too strong.  Pulps that are too strong will take an excessive amount of energy to turn the pulp into fluff.  This can result in an excess amount of large fiber bundles or chunks of pulp sheets (knots). Large fiber bundles and knots are undesirable as they must be discarded or reprocessed into fluff pulp.  This reduces fluff pulp yield and quality leading to increased costs.

The addition of a debonder during the manufacture of the pulp sheet will reduce fiber-to-fiber bonding strength.  This will reduce the amount of energy required to turn the sheet into fluff pulp, resulting in free fiber maximization.

Recommended Solution

ProSoft® Debonder Technology combines chemistry and application expertise to maximize sheet strength reduction resulting in the highest quality fluff pulp.  The broad portfolio of Hercules ProSoft® Debonder Technology allows the proper match of product chemistry to desired sheet properties.  The use of this technology allows the papermaker to maximize the grade flexibility of a pulp sheet made on a single machine.

Key benefits recorded from practical applications of ProSoft® Debonder Technology include:

Reduced defiberization energy

Improved fluff pulp uniformity
Minimal impact on absorbency rate
Bulk enhancement
