The Yankee Cylinder is a vital part of the tissue making process and its surface plays an important part in achieving good sheet quality. Therefore, it is imperative that the Yankee surface be well protected, as any resultant damage or wear to the Yankee face can result in:
Reduced tissue quality resulting from chatter or pick marks
Increased sheet breaks and decreased machine runnability
Reduced doctor blade life
Ultimately this can lead to having to regrind the Yankee surface. This is not only an unwanted cost but will also result in many days machine downtime.
The primary cause of damage and wear to the Yankee surface is direct metal to metal contact between the cylinder and the doctor blades.
The key to protecting the surface of the Yankee Cylinder is an effective Yankee coating, which will form a protective barrier between the Cylinder surface and the doctor blades ensuring metal to metal contact will not occur.
Crepetrol® Creping Technology is designed to give an effective protective layer on the surface of the Yankee. This forms a barrier between the Cylinder surface and the doctor blades, minimizing wear and damage. Crepetrol® Creping Technology should be used in conjunction with the appropriate Rezosol® Release and/or Rezosol® Modifier Technology, which will further help by lubricating the doctor blades and optimizing the adhesive layer rheology.
If additional protection is required, then one of the Rezosol® phosphate additives can be used to provide increased protection.
This combination of products can be tailored to individual machine conditions to ensure good protection of the Yankee surface irrespective of operating conditions.
