Protecsol® Corrosion Inhibitor

IFMA’s 2009 study of common building occupant complaints found that the #1 complaint was that the building was too hot or too cold.  At no time is this more likely to occur than during the start-up of a heating or cooling system that has been idle all winter or summer.  While many people believe this is “just the way it is”, in reality one of the main root causes of these problems can be avoided with a little preparation and minimal cost.

Problem Source
The source of cooling or heating start-up issues is often due to iron fouling of the system (see Figure 1).  When cooling or heating systems sit idle in the off season, they are typically stagnant and often only partially drained.  The result of this corrosive mixture of water and oxygen is severe corrosion.  When the systems are re-filled with water and started up, rust flakes are thrown off which restrict or block system components. Subsequently, water flow is impeded and the system is unable to deliver heating and/or cooling resulting in a costly and time consuming process of cleaning and flushing the system.

Solution
To avoid these maintenance headaches and associated costs, Protecsol® corrosion inhibitor can be utilized just prior to seasonal shutdown.  Protecsol is a patented corrosion inhibitor that protects the system piping from corrosion both in the water and in the air space rather than only protecting flooded sections of piping. As a result, corrosion is controlled throughout the ENTIRE system resulting in as much as a 90% reduction in fouling during startup.  Less fouling means minimal to no flow restrictions allowing your system to quickly provide heating and cooling on demand!
