Wilmington, DE, June 2, 2004 - - The Pulp and Paper Division of Hercules Incorporated (NYSE: HPC) will initiate price increases in North America of approximately 3-9% for all process and functional products (excluding wet strength resins). This increase is effective July 1, 2004 for all new customers and for existing customers as agreements allow. Kymene® wet strength resin prices were recently raised by 10%, effective May 24, 2004.

"For the last several years, the Pulp and Paper Division has carefully managed our internal costs and focused extensively on the development of new and innovative products. More efficient products allow us to work with our customers to help drive their costs down", said Brian Pahl, Vice President, Hercules Incorporated and President, Pulp and Paper Division. "However, with the steep escalation of several critical raw materials, energy and transportation costs, these pricing changes are necessary."
