Inability to Increase Machine Speed Problem Summary Drainage and drying limitations and/or paper quality frequently limit the papermakers ability to increase machine speed and production. Dewatering capability and sheet strength suffer as paper machine speed is increased. Formation, fiber alignment, and the bonding matrix are all negatively affected with less time on the forming table or vat cylinder. The result is a wetter, weaker sheet as measured by STFI, ring crush, burst, tensile, plybond, etc. Refining increases can help offset the strength loss, but without the capability to drain faster, the machine must necessarily slow down to maintain target moistures. Therefore, many papermakers find themselves operating in a very narrow window of speed vs. strength as they push their machines to higher production levels. Recommended Solution Introduced in 2006, Hercobond® 6000 paper performance technology is currently running on over 28 paper machines, delivering big increases in speed and strength! Strength gains (ring crush, STFI, burst, tensile, internal bond) coupled with significant drainage and drying performance is a powerful combination that allows the papermaker to increase production flexibility by improving paper quality while increasing drainage and speed. Another important feature of HB6000 is its high level of reactivity in the paper machine wet end allowing for reductions in strength resins, retention and drainage polymers, and charge control agents. Machine wet ends using Hercobond® 6000 products are simpler, leaner, and more cost-effective. Hercobond 6000 is giving these papermakers a tremendous advantage by expanding their operating window to deliver more production at equal or greater strength performance. Key benefits recorded from commercial applications of Hercobond® 6000 paper erformance technology:
